Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay is a Californian born in Long beach on 24 August 1972. Her aunt Denise inspired her love of the arts and her creative side. Aunt Denise, who worked night shifts as a nurse, let her study literature for art as well as theater in the daylight. DuVernay was first introduced to the film West Side Story by her aunt. DuVernay learned by example that art can be an avenue for action. DuVernay's mother also had a social consciousness and taught DuVernay how to communicate via artwork. DuVernay was appointed to monitor and investigate the residence of an individual member of the Jury. Her work left her dissatisfied in journalism, so she decided to move towards the industry of public relations. DuVernay started her first job as a publicist in a small production studio right after she graduated from school. The DuVernay Agency is her first public relations agency.
